Amarnath Yatra
Amarnath Yatra is organised every year by the Jammu and Kashmir State Government. The publication of this journey is published every year in month of June. For devotees wanting to visit Amarnath during this period have to register them. The application from is given out by the Indian Government.
About Amarnath Shrine
Amarnath, situated at 3888 m, 142 kilometres from Srinagar, is a very famous holy cave attracting many Indians, especially Hindus and people from the overseas who are in awe of the powerful and mighty Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is ever present there in the form of a Lingam. Even in the extremes of the climate, dedicated devotees of Lord Shiva go there to get a glimpse of the eternal Lingam. Amaranth Yatra schedule is given out by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) every year.
Getting registered for Amarnath Yatra
The tourist offices of J&K government are located at Srinagar, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Jammu. For online registration, forms can be downloaded from www.amarnathyatra.org from 18th of June 2010. After taking out the print of the downloaded forms, they can be duly filled and submitted to the registration office nearest to your place. A medical fitness certificated from an MBBS Doctor has to be submitted along with your two passport size photographs and a stamped envelope addressed to self. On registration the authorities will issue a slip which will also work as the identity proof of the Yatri. This slip has to be carried along by each yatri on the Yatra.

J&K Bank also allows devotees to register themselves through them. The registration counter at the bank is open from 3pm to 6pm from Monday to Friday. On Saturday, from 1pm to 4 pm and on Sundays the counters remain closed. Bajaj Allianz provides insurance cover which is valid on the journey for Jammu-Srinagar and the return journey upto Jammu. A fixed amount of premium has to be paid for availing the benefits of the insurance.
