Rajdhani Express trains were introduced in the year 1969 for providing high-speed connections up to 140 kilometers speed from New Delhi to the various state capital cities of India. The speed varies depending upon the particular track section. This class of train has very limited stoppages along its journey. This also was the first group of trains with all its coaches being air-conditioned. These trains get the highest priority on the Indian railway network. Passengers are served complimentary meals during the journey. Depending on the duration and timings of the journey, these could include lunch, evening tea with snacks, dinner, morning tea and breakfast.
Guwahati (Which is also spelt as Gauhati) to New Delhi to Guwahati section of Indian Railways is serviced by two sets of Rajdhani Trains. The first one bearing train numbers 12235 & 12236 from Guwahati to New Delhi Rajdhani Express runs on Friday, whereas New Delhi to Guwahati Rajdhani Express runs on Tuesday. This train halts at New Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, New Alipurdaur, New Cooch Behar, New Jalpaiguri, Kishanganj, Katihar, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Hajipur, Chhapra, Ballia, Varanasi, Lucknow NR, Bareilly, and Moradabad on its course of journey at both the ends.
The second train is bearing train numbers 12423 & 12424. Train number 12423 runs from Guwahati to New Delhi & on its return journey it runs as train number 12424. This train halts at New Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, New Alipurdaur, New Cooch Behar, New Jalpaiguri, Kishanganj, Katihar, Barauni, Patna, Mughal Sarai, Allahabad, and Kanpur on both sides of its journey. It may be noted that this train orginates and terminates at / from Dibrugarh Town.
